Joseph E. Grotto, Sr., 95, of Rockford formerly of Roscoe passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017. Born February 16, 1922 in Alton to Anthony and Victoria (Ederati) Grotto. A veteran of the US Army serving during WWII. Married Norma M. Caroto. Employed from 1943 – 1976 as a Maintenance Foreman for Twin Disc Inc. Member of the Venetian Club. Joseph was Deputy Sheriff for Winnebago County for 15 years and Chief of Police for Winnebago for 9 years. He and his wife loved to travel. Joseph also enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, and socializing with people, all people.

Survivors include son, Joseph E. Grotto, Jr.; daughters, Rose Ann (Mark) Olson, Donna Monger; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Dora (Joseph) Calgaro, Norma (Lee) De Santi, Rose (Carl) Segalla, Loretta (Don) Cruden; several nieces, nephews, and cousins in Italy. Predeceased by parents; wife, Norma; brother, Virgil; sisters, Ann Zinna, Adeline Ancona; grandson, Mark Olson; aunts; uncles; and cousins.

Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson Street, Rockford. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of mass in the church. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to your choice of charity.
