Beverly J. Lindsey, 92, of Rockford, passed away October 19, 2017 at her home in the Siena on Brendenwood community in the presence of family and dedicated caregiver, Lou. She was the longest living person in her family for four generations. Born in Danville, Illinois in 1924, the daughter of Palmer and Janet (Rice) Smith. Married Robert Lindsey in 1945 in Paris, Illinois. Rockford resident since 1948. Graduated from Illinois State Normal University with a B.S. in elementary education in 1945 and an M.S. from Rockford College in 1974. Elementary teacher in East Lynn and Rockford. Appointed Director of Research and Development and Title I Director for Rockford District 205. Member of Second Congregational Church serving in many capacities including church Moderator. Member Delta Kappa Gamma, IEA, NEA, Retired Teachers, PEO, and the Red Hats. Volunteer at Rockford Memorial Hospital receiving the Alma Fringer Volunteer Award in 2004. Enjoyed cross stitching, gardening, camping, and white water rafting in Alaska at age 82.
Survivors include sons, Robert of Chicago, Richard of Laramie, Wyoming; and grandchildren, Jamie and Brenna. Predeceased by parents; brother, Melvin and husband, Robert.
Memorial service will be at 11:00am with a visitation from 10:15am to 10:45am on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Second/First Church, 318 N. Church St., Rockford 61101. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second/First Church.
