Virginia R. Sallee

April 25, 1925 ~ February 17, 2011 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Virginia R. Sallee died at her home in Rockford Thursday, February 17, 2011. Virginia was born in Darlington, Wisconsin on April 25, 1925, the daughter of Arthur and Mayme Nelson Richter. After graduating from Darlington High School, she worked at the Badger Ordinance Works in Baraboo until the end of World War II. She then moved to Rockford and worked at Camp Grant Typing discharge papers. She later worked at Block and Kuhl and Elco Tool. In 1947 Virginia married Ted Sallee who died in 1972. She is survived by her children; Thomas (Myrna) Sallee of Hooper, Utah, and Dianne (Gary) VerKuilen of Rockford; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Nathan) Philpot and Darlene (Chris) Carter of Hooper, Utah, Todd (Emilie) Sallee of Gilbert, Arizona and Susan (Brent) Soderberg; and three great-grandchildren, Lucy Carter and Forrest and Fara Philpot; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Marion Cummins and brother Edward Richter. Virginia was a lifetime member of Broadway Methodist Church where she served in various capacities. She served as a River Bluff Nursing Home Auxiliary member for 24 years. After her husband’s death, Virginia enjoyed spending time with friends who had also lost their husbands. She enjoyed traveling and very much enjoyed her friends at Rockford Christian Retirement Center. She will be remembered by her children as a good, generous and loving mother who quietly shared with those in need. A visitation will be held Sunday, February 20, 2011, from 3 to 5 P.M. in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, Rockford Chapel, 4311 North Mulford Rd. with private burial service to follow in Willwood Cemetery.
