My sincere condolences to you, Leslie, and to your family. As the music specialist at Froberg School for several years during Steve's principalship there, I could see every day how much he enjoyed working with the children. He showed his love and appreciation for music through the enthusiasm he demonstrated when the students presented their concerts. With his smile and his easy laugh, he brought a lot of joy to school each day. Thank you, Steve. You will be missed!

Chris and I both considered Steve to be our mentor and our good friend. He was such a wonderful guy - cared so much for others, loved to laugh, and always brightened everyone's days. He had such an inquisitive spirit. He was always willing to learn and try something new. His love for learning and for others made him such an excellent principal. I loved laughing at his jokes, and playing card games with him. So sorry he had to fight this terrible cancer, but he did so with such a positive attitude. He was so courageous. We will really miss Steve, and forever be thankful that he was our friend.

Steve a wonderful and unique man. We were deeply saddened when we were made aware of his struggle with cancer and now his passing. Among many wonderful traits, we will remember his interesting conversations, his joke telling, and his desire to see that everyone around him was having a good time. He impacted so many lives in a positive uplifting manner. We will miss him greatly.

Leslie, I am deeply saddened to hear that Steve's journey is finished. Please know that you are in my heart and my prayers as you begin your own journey. Steve was a legendary administrator and while I never had the opportunity to work with him directly, I have always heard such wonderfully good things about him. May his memories be a blessing to all. ~Carol

It is truly a day of sadness for me. You were a true friend in high school. Memories of parties, dances, dates, and fun times come rushing back. I often saw you in my adult life out and about in the schools. Your bright and caring will live forever in the hearts of all who knew you. Rest in peace, Steve. You are missed.

How can I express my sorrow for losing such a fantastic HS friend. Although the years have passed by and we have not continued to be connected, it was a great pleasure to see Leslie and Steve at the 50th reunion. Steve was my best buddy during HS and I admired him immensely. Although he had a difficult childhood, he was always positive and is a model of someone who can rise above adversity and become successful beyond wild imagination. I fondly remember the double dating, the hot rod Oldsmobile, ski trips, his love for tennis ---but especially his positive attitude! I was so proud of him and will miss him.

I am so sorry to hear that Steve has passed. What a wonderful, caring, compassionate man. I was a fellow principal with Steve. I enjoyed his support, humor, and joy. There was never a meeting or training that we attended that he did not seek out someone who was new or sitting by themselves. He was always thinking of others. He loved his dear family. We will all miss him.

My condolences to Leslie and the rest of the family. I will greatly miss Steve,
especially our walks, our long long long conversations, and even (believe it or not)
his corny jokes. He brought joy to everyone he met. No matter what kind of mood
you were in, you always felt better after interacting with Steve.

Leslie, Tom & I were so saddened to learn of Steve's passing. You know I ran into Steve at the Waffle House in early summer - He was so positive - even telling about his treatments & the "fight to the finish." I always enjoyed Steve's ability to stir up a good dose of humor in whatever the conversation. Leslie, we are thinking of you and send you our love & deepest sympathy. Georgia & Tom

We will always remember Steve as a giving person. His "birthday gifts" to me & our weekly volleyball group are still appreciated and treasured (a wonderful, easy to set up net and the very functional line painting machine). What a guy, he was so happy & grateful to be able to get together weekly in the summers to play some VBall, tell some jokes and laugh with old & new friends! That was just a bit of our history with Mr Mahan, he was truly a unique individual, a very good unique individual!! He will be remembered & missed!

Mr. Mahan was such a wonderful principal and friend. He will be missed. He is the one responsible for my going back to get a Master's degree. He sat down with me one day and explained why it was so important not only for further personal growth but for future compensation. I appreciate him taking the time with his staff and wanted the best for them. At Froberg Elementary the mornings were a fun time for the kids and set them up to have a good day at school to learn- brilliant! He was a joy to work with and blessed all he had contact with. Thank you Mr. Mahan! My condolences to the family. He truly was one of the good ones!
