Oh Shawn my old friend. I looked you up hoping to see you when visiting Rockford this summer and found your obituary. I will always remember your mischievious smile. Also hanging on for dear life on the motorcyle and catching air in the el camino. I'm so sorry that you are gone so young. My love and condolences to your family.

I just found out about Shawn's passing. He was my best buddy through high school and beyond. We had a lot of memories together, and though we didn't see each other very often we still had our old memories form our past. I just wish I would have called him back some months ago. It has left a hole in my heart. I learn more every day how short our lives here really are. My deepest condolences to his whole family.
I will surely miss him.

I will never forget you Shawn. There is a special place in my heart for you. And, you are right, family is not always a shared last name. You had so many wonderful talents including making those around you feel good....and, of course, your awesome coffee!!!!!! Xo. I miss you. Lonna

Shawn Baxter had a heart of Olympic Gold!!! He was a Champion in his own right. He was always a pleasure to be around due to his good nature and kind soul. My wife Patricia and I will always have fond memories of him. His existence enriched everyone & everything around him.

Shawn was a memorable guy. I worked for him par time and he'd never play the "boss card" when if things went a little awry (like when I accidently called the Fire Dept on a museum security pad). Like others have said, with Shawn it's always been about his MVMC "family" and working together to get the job done. And that's where his creativity came in, always coming up with a solution for each challenge. He had a great sense of humor as well if you were able to pick up on it, and I hope you did. I have no doubt Shawn's being rewarded for a life well spent. His memorial will be the best maintained structure on the grounds.

Shawn never said 'no' or 'we can't do that' to those of us at the Midway Police Museum. He always spoke of his Grandfather, Rockford Police Capt. DeCamp.
Shawn will be missed by the Police Officers he helped at Midway. He was a big part of our museum and his 'touches' there can be seen everywhere.
Thanks Shawn and may God Bless You.

Losing a friend like you is devastating and everlasting. We depended on you for so much at Midway and we never gave you the thanks you deserved. I know for a fact the restrooms in heaven will have plenty of soap and toilet paper in them, not a single broken golf cart, and the pearly gates will sparkle for all to see. When the snow flies in winter - I know you will be the first with your plow! You are missed every day and you will never be forgotten. You were a great co-worker and friend. Rest in Peace.

Shawn was a great guy! We held our DAR Flag Day at the Village for a number of years and Shawn was always there early to set up tables and chairs and help out in any way he could. As a volunteer at the Village, I often asked for Shawn's help and he was always willing to do everything asked of him. He will be so missed at the Village. He always had a smile and a helping hand!
