Leonard Dee Skelnik

Leonard Dee Skelnik, 59, of Roscoe, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017.  Born in Elgin, IL on August 24, 1957 to Edward and Helen (Winandy) Skelnik; married Cathy Alshanski on June 27, 1981.  Len was a painter at OSF St. Anthony Hospital.  

Len’s favorite pastime was fishing, and he fully enjoyed his many fishing trips with friends and family.  He could often be found in his garage workshop, and was a talented woodworker and craftsman.  Len was a life-long Chicago sports fan, as well as a music enthusiast and artist.  More than anything, spending time with his family brought him the most joy.  His contagious laughter and love for life will be forever missed and never forgotten.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy Skelnik; daughter, Stephanie (David) Valderrama; daughter, Carrie (Michael) Severin; son, Leonard E. (Bethany) Skelnik; grandchildren, Leah and Nicolas Valderrama and Ella and Luke Severin; brothers, Edward (Briana Baker) Skelnik and Ernest (Anna) Skelnik; sister-in-law, Penny Skelnik; nephew and many nieces. He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Henry Skelnik.

Memorial Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon with the Memorial Service at 12:00 noon and a fellowship luncheon immediately following the service, on Saturday, August 26, 2017 in Grace Lutheran Church, 343 Grand Avenue, Loves Park, IL 61111 with Rev. Brent Dahlseng officiating.
