Gale C. Park

Gale Park, 92, of Machesney Park, died at home on Saturday, February 25, 2017. He was born on October 15, 1924 in Centerville, Iowa to Earl and Lula Mae Park. He married Gladys Winterland on December 20, 1947. Gladys died on June 3, 2000. Gale served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II. He was wounded on Iwo Jima in the Pacific and was awarded the Purple Heart. His being a veteran was the center of his whole life. He always wore a cap that said he was an Iwo Jima survivor. Gale was employed at White and Sundstrand for a total of thirty years. He retired on February 1, 1987. 

Survivors include his sister-in-law, Marie Park; nephew, Ron Park; nieces, Carolyn Haarvei, Dorothy Joesten, Roxie Constant and Barb Anderson. Predeceased by his parents; wife; brothers, Glenn and Owen Leroy Park; sisters, Lucille Atwell, Charlotte Ellis and Kathleen Chandler Blottenberger; stepdaughter, Judy Park Allen; nephews, Gary and Jim Park; nieces, Karen Coleen Schulz and Gerry York. 

Gale was buried next to his wonderful wife, Gladys. A memorial will be held at a later date.
