Catherine L. Abbott

Catherine L. Abbott, 90,  of Rockford passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017 in River Bluff Nursing Home. Born September 11, 1926 in Westminster, MD, daughter of Harry and Maggie (Ammond) Bond. Studied nursing at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Veteran of Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy. Married Donald Abbott. She was employed by Swedish American Hospital and Rockford Public Library. A quiet, kind and independent woman, she deeply loved her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Central Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and had a strong faith in God and His promise of eternal life. Her favorite scripture was “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.” Rev:21:4.

Survived by her children, Michael (Karen) Abbott, Kimbra (Sam) Garnhart, Tamara (Marvin) Clark and Steven Abbott; grandchildren, Michael Vowell, Michelle Garnhart, Megan Garnhart and Isabelle Abbott. Predeceased by her parents; and her brother, Bryce Bond. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of River Bluff and particularly to Mom’s special friend, Renee. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 1:00 PM in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2916 Chadwick Drive, Rockford, IL 61108.
