Patrick Edward O'Brien

April 2, 1949 ~ September 25, 2017 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Patrick Edward O'Brien, 68, of Roscoe passed away Monday, September 25, 2017. Born on April 2, 1949, in Cascade, Iowa, Patrick "Pat" O'Brien, was the fourth child born to Eddie and Lois Evans O'Brien.  His parents eventually divorced and his mother remarried.  There were 12 siblings under the wings of their very, very special mother with whom they shared tough times, joyful times and family tragedies, all of which bound them closer to one another.  Pat graduated from Delwood High School in Delmar, Iowa, in 1967, and then Clinton Community College.  Before starting his junior year at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, he married Linda McCubbin.  He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in business and began working for the K-Mart-Kresge companies in Moline, Illinois.  Pat and Linda's family grew and after being transferred to the Loves Park, Illinois, area, they decided they were "home".  Pat then launched a career in sales of petroleum equipment, eventually establishing his own corporation.  His own family grew, as did his love for the game of golf, which he played quite well.  He had seven beautiful children whom he grew to love more and more over the years.  As life happened, circumstances changed and in the late 1970's and early 1980's both his business and marriage failed. Pat continued in sales work, retiring from Comcast in 2015.  He very much looked forward to spending more time on the golf course, but was diagnosed with cancer, which certainly cut his golfing days short.  Meanwhile, his family blossomed and he was the proud grandpa of a dozen precious grandchildren, each of whom was dear to him.

Accomplishments of which Pat was proud include being the golf coach at Christian Life High School, traveling to Africa on a missions trip with a team of men from what was then Assembly of God Church, various other missions trips and a trip to Ireland with son Nathan. Pat was a member of City Church and was an usher for many years.  He was devoted to both evangelism and giving of his finances to those in need.

Pat was predeceased by his parents, Eddie O'Brien, his beloved mother, Lois Morgan, brothers John and Stevie, sister Mary Rose and his infant son, Benjamin David, aunts, uncles, cousins and Jeani.  A large, loving family survive him, scattered throughout the United States, which include many aunts, uncles and cousins, nieces and nephews.  His siblings include Frances "Fran" (Duane) Spain and family, Maquoketa, Iowa, Kathy O'Brien of Maquoketa, Linda (Barry) Nudd of Bellevue, Iowa, Frank O'Brien, Bellevue, Iowa, Kevin Radetzki of Postville, Iowa, Rhonda Radetzski, Dubuque, Iowa, Robin (Dan) Ignatowicz, St. Louis Park, MN, Kim Wiese of Minneapolis, MN and Clif (Cathy) Morgan of Dubuque, IA.  Surviving children include son Patrick II (Paige) of Caledonia, IL along with children Hailey and Maggie; Michael "Mike" O'Brien, Rockton, Illinois; Nathan (Amanda) O'Brien of Brunswick, GA and children Abaigeal and Brianna; Elizabeth "Liz" O'Brien of Shirland, Il and children Charlotte "Charlie", Samantha "Sammie", Louisa "Weezie" and Kastin; Daniel O'Brien, East St. Louis, Il and children Benjamin and Daniel; and Merrie O'Brien, Roscoe, Il and children Emmalynne Daily and Riolynne O'Brien.

The entire family has appreciated the care of Linda O'Brien in the final months of Pat's life.  Through God's gracious and abundant love, both Pat and Linda have enjoyed loving relationships with their family.  Thank you too, Lionel, for being a dear friend and brother in Christ.
