Kenneth W. Loewecke, Sr.

Kenneth William Loewecke, Sr., passed on to his eternal home on Friday, September 29, 2017, in Rockford, IL, at the age of 93.  Ken was born on June 16, 1924, in Chicago, IL.  He attended Lane Tech High School, and on June 9, 1945, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Mae Zetterberg. They were rarely apart.  Ken’s passions were his faith, his family, the Cubs, the Bears, and he was very proud to have served his country in the United States Navy as an SF2 Plank Holder on the Battleship USS New Jersey.​

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Shirley; sister, Elaine (Dick) Tanney; brother, Donald (Susie); four children, Kathy (Dennis) Wentz, Debbie (Dale) Johnson, Kenneth, Jr. (Cheri) and Mark (Joyce); along with 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Esther Loewecke; brother, Norman; two grandsons, Kyle and Kerry Wentz; and great-granddaughter, Autum.
 

Visitation will be from 10:00am to 11:00 with the Service at 11:00 a.m. in Maywood Evangelical Free Church, 3621 Samuelson Road, Rockford 61109, on Wednesday, October 4.  Lunch will be served immediately afterwards.  A graveside service will follow in Winnebago Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association are suggested.
