David “Dave” A. Jurgens, 78, of Roscoe, passed away at home on Monday, August 22, 2016.  He left behind his wife Edith, whom he was married to for over 38 years, and 5 daughters as well as 1 son: Rebecca (Hank) Rose of Medford, OR, Jana Rose of Country Club Hills, IL, Mary Kaye Rose of Flossmoor, IL, Robin (Steve) Melton of Madison, WI, Lisa Jones of Roscoe, IL, Andrew (Amber) Jones of Rockford, IL. He is also survived by 8 grandsons; 4 granddaughters; and 1 great grandson.  Andrew Jones was a special son/grandson as Dave & Edith helped raise him.  Drew Jones, great grandson, was Papa’s “special buddy”.  He also left behind grandchildren Ashley Rose, Max Tortoriello, Jaxon Devereaux, Kitty Rose, KC Wilson, LCpl Dexter Melton, Breanna Wilson, Haley Melton, Taj Rose, Ian & Ethan Melton, Liam Birmingham. He is predeceased by his parents Elmer & Viola Jurgens; and twin brother, Daniel Jurgens.

David served in the US Army as a Sergeant in the 2nd Armored Division, “Hell on Wheels”.  He then settled in Springfield, IL and went back to work for Illinois Bell.  He eventually moved to the Rockford area and retired from Illinois Bell after 38 years of perfect attendance. He was a life member of the VFW Post 2955 of Roscoe, IL and the American Legion Post 33 of Rockton, IL.  Dave served on the Zoning Board for the Village of Roscoe for 20 years. He loved to keep busy and was always willing to help anyone in any way that he could.  His family was always grateful for “Uncle Dave” and the knowledge that he had and his ability to fix almost anything. He spent many hours at the VFW Post doing odd jobs, mowing, and helping out in many ways. Dave was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016 in the VFW Post in Roscoe, 11385 2nd Street, Roscoe, with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family.
