Zachary Eugene Smith

Zachary Eugene Smith, 29, born September 22, 1991, left the earth after a tough battle from sudden illness on May 25, 2021. He is survived by mother, Kellie Hayes; step dad, Chris Hayes; dad, Mark Totenhagen; two sisters, Allison Smith and Madison Hayes; brother, Eric Eckhardt; former step dad, Randy Eckhardt; step siblings; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents.

Zach enjoyed listening to music and finding artists and songs that weren't well known yet. He loved playing all sorts of games, being outdoors, all animals and always made the funniest jokes. Zach went with the flow of life and being with family was always important to him. Zach was the most caring, compassionate, understanding and funniest person in our lives and we are so grateful to have had him here with us. We simply cannot put into words the essence of who Zach was or how he made us feel. He truly loved everyone in his life and we all felt loved by him. We will miss you here with us, but we will cherish every memory we have of you immensely. 

Memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2021 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory – Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park with a visitation from 4:00 p.m. until time of service.
