William "Bill" Lamps, Jr., 84, of Rockford, IL, passed away on November 2, 2024. Bill was born on September 6, 1940, to Louis Gertrude (Schultz) Lamps and William Lamps, Sr. He grew up alongside his sisters, Janice and Julie, enjoying an active childhood filled with basketball games at Keith Country Day School. He furthered his education by attending Lincoln Junior College and Iowa Wesleyan College. Drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War, Bill was stationed in Germany, where he served as an ambulance driver. Upon his return, he worked as the office manager for his father’s business, Lamps Elevator, in Rockford.
He had a lifelong passion for photography, always capturing special moments at church, family events, and Cub Scout gatherings. Bill was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and his deep love for the Heavenly Father and the Savior guided his life. His faith inspired his many acts of service and his commitment to his family. For over 20 years, Bill served as Cub Scout Master of Pack 707, where he was affectionately known as "Mr. Bill." His enthusiasm and good humor left a lasting impression on the scouts he mentored. He brought joy and laughter to the Blackhawk Area Council Cub Scout Day Camp, creating cherished memories for many children.
Bill also visited River Bluff Nursing Home regularly, forming friendships and brightening the lives of the residents. As an active member of the Rockford Noon Lions Club, Bill served for several years as the Candy Day fundraising chairman. Known for his love of children and his "kid-at-heart" nature, he delighted in telling silly jokes and making others smile. A massive Elvis Presley fan, Bill filled his home with Elvis's music, sharing his passion for "The King" with family and friends. In addition to photography, Bill enjoyed fishing, swimming, and square dancing, hobbies that brought him happiness and kept him active. His love for the outdoors and music enriched his life and brought joy to those around him.
Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nancy Jane (Hills) Lamps; his parents, Louis Gertrude (Schultz) Lamps and William Lamps, Sr.; his brother, William Frederick Lamps; and his sisters, Janice and Julie.
