Vonnie R. Wares

Vonnie Rae Wares, born on April 16, 1936, to Harry and Minnie Hoelzel, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, in Poplar Grove, Illinois, surrounded by her loving family. 

On June 15, 1955, Vonnie married Wayne A. Wares in Poplar Grove, Illinois, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned nearly seven decades. Together they built a life filled with love and cherished memories.

A dedicated farmer’s wife and homemaker, Vonnie found great happiness in spending time with her family and cooking for loved ones. For 46 years, she treasured time at the family’s lake house in Lake Mills, Wisconsin. She also enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, puzzles, spending time in the sun room, gambling, playing cards with friends and family, and dancing with her devoted husband.

Vonnie’s warmth and love left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness and devotion will live on through the many lives she touched.

May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her.

Vonnie was preceded in death by her parents; seven siblings; and her son, Larry Wares. She is survived by her beloved husband, Wayne; her children, Ted (Sue) Wares, Mike (Paula) Wares, Rod (Becky) Wares, and Kellie (Scott) Taylor; her grandchildren, Becky Wolff, Jamie Scott, Lindsay Fidder, Caleb Wares, Craig Wares, Eric Wares, Hannah Taylor, and Karlie Taylor; as well as ten great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy.

Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, January 23, 2025 in Poplar Grove United Methodist Church, 105 E. Grove Street, Poplar Grove, IL 61065.  Funeral service will be at 10:30am on Friday, January 24, also in the church.  Burial in Highland Garden of Memories, Belvidere, IL.  In lieu of flowers, any donations received will be donated to Vonnie’s favorite charities at a later date.
