Viola Marie Voorhies, 95, of Rockford, passed away on August 27, 2024. She was born February 5, 1929 in Belvidere, the daughter of Erland and Agnes (Swanson) Stockhaus. She graduated from Belvidere High School in 1947 and married Clifford Ray “Jack” Voorhies on June 22, 1948 at Belvidere Covenant Church.
She was employed at Alpine Bank and in later years, along with her husband, worked at Covenant Harbor Bible Camp in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. She was a member of Belvidere Covenant Church, serving in the choir and teaching Sunday School. After moving to Rockford she and Jack joined First Covenant Church where she was active in women’s ministries and as a youth leader.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, Randy (Liz) Voorhies of Rockford, and Rick (Marla) Voorhies of Michigan; grandchildren, Andrea Vode, Alison (Stan) Valiulis, Kindra (Andrew) Tanis, and Ryan (Sarah) Voorhies; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents; husband; sister, Gladys Walters; and brother, Harold (Agnes) Stockhaus.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00am at First Covenant Church, 316 Wood Rd., Rockford IL 61107 on Monday, September 16, 2024 with Pastor Peter Dibley officiating. Visitation from 10:00am to 10:45am prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Covenant Harbor Ministries or Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center.
