Vern A. Mueller

Vern Allen Mueller, 78, of Rockford, IL, and a longtime resident of Roscoe and Machesney Park, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Vern left behind a rich legacy of hard work, deep family devotion, and a lifetime of music.

Vern shared 58 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Karyl. The couple married in 1968, in Janesville, after first meeting at a family back-to-school party where Vern was playing keyboard with his band.

A 1965 graduate of Medford High School,  Vern soon began a dedicated 30-year career as an autoworker at Chrysler in Belvidere, where he worked on the assembly line, in the cushion room, and as an inspector. Following his retirement from Chrysler, he spent 11 years at the Hilander grocery store in Roscoe, serving at the deli counter and later managing the liquor department.

While Vern worked tirelessly to support his family, his true passion was music. A natural talent, Vern began playing music by ear at just five years old, recreating songs his mother sang to him on a toy accordion. He later joined his brothers in the family band, "The Mueller Brothers," playing accordion and keyboard at events across Medford and Janesville. He continued performing with his brother Dene for 25 years at the Moose Club in Harvard before forming "Sound Sensations" with his daughter Juelane and son Mark, bringing joy to neighbors, schools, and friends.

In addition to music, his love for life extended to his favorite pastimes, which included a passion for cars, a deep love for traveling to new places, peaceful days spent fishing, showering his wife with gifts and bragging about his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Vern is survived by his wife, Karyl; his children, Michelle (Tim) Silkaitis, Juelane Porter, and Mark (Sara) Mueller; his grandchildren, TJ, Zachary, and Olivia Silkaitis, Austin (Megan McKillips) Fairbert, Riley Fairbert, Kelsi Mueller, Madelynn (Bobby) Wolter, and Jacob, Elizabeth, and Ian Mueller; and his great-grandchildren, Maverick Fairbert, Kylee Schilb, Danny Fairbert, and Jackson Slater. He is also survived by his sister, Karen (Scott) Kersten; his brothers, Lorin Mueller and Dene (Linda) Mueller; and 22 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Mueller; his sisters, Judy Mueller & Melva Anderson; his brother, Gary Mueller; and his parents, Melvin Mueller and Nora Davis.

Funeral Services will be held at Honquest Funeral Home - Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe, IL on Friday, August 7, 2026.  Visitation from 10-12, Service from 12-1, Cemetery Service from 1-1:30.  A Celebration of Life luncheon for family and friends will be held at the American Legion, 14879 Dorr Rd. South Beloit, IL, directly following all services.
