Vera L. Bush, 81, of Machesney Park, IL passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. The youngest of 12 children, she was born on January 1, 1943 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, to John and Bess Davis. After graduating from Tahlequah High School in 1959, Vera served in the United States Army at Fort Sam Houston from 1960 – 1963. After spending her children’s early years focusing on maternal duties, including time spent as president of the PTA of the elementary school the boys attended, she worked for over 20 years at S&C Electric Company in Chicago, where she worked in International sales and other positions until her retirement in 2005. Vera enjoyed music, particularly Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, Elton John and Bob Seger, baking, spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the family’s dogs.
Vera is survived by her two sons, Bryan David (Brigit) and Steven (Tracy); a sister, Wanda Winkle, of Muskogee, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Alison (Ryan) Giles ,Erica ( Brandon) Hargrove, Taylor ( Bryan) Calderaro and Haley Hindman; great-grandchildren, Coltin, Matilynn, Gage, Weston, Claire, and Kai; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was known by many and beloved by all. In accordance with Vera’s wishes, she has been cremated and a private Celebration of Life will be held in her hometown of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may donate to the American Cancer Society or their favorite charity. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of the Order of Saint Francis staff for their care and support.
