Toni Neitzel Obituary

Toni Lee Neitzel, 80, of Loves Park, IL passed away peacefully on Friday, July 5, 2024 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, IL after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 30, 1944 in Quincy, IL, the daughter of June V. Bunte. She attended Payson High School where she graduated in 1962 as Salutatorian and was a member of The National Honor Society. Afterward, she went on to attend Quincy University after receiving The Illinois State Scholarship Award. Upon relocating to DeKalb, she met and married the love of her life, Harold A. Neitzel, Jr. in January of 1975. She was an accountant most of her professional life. Throughout her career, she was also a volunteer for Lutheran Campus Ministries in DeKalb, IL, also volunteering for Daisy Girl Scouts in Sycamore, IL and the Adopt-A-Grandparent Program with the DeKalb County Nursing Home in DeKalb, IL. Upon their retirement from NIU, she and Harold relocated to Loves Park, IL and became active members of Christ United Methodist Church in Rockford, IL.

Survivors include her daughter, Laura A. (Neitzel) Rosenberg of Loves Park, IL; her son-in-law, Brendan T. Rosenberg; her grandson, Peter J. Rosenberg of Loves Park, IL; brother, Dr. Harry G. Crowcroft and wife Rev. Sidney L. Crowcroft of Quincy, IL. In addition she is survived by her nephews, Dr. David S. Crowcroft (Manuel) of Madison, WI and Harry Allen Crowcroft (Eun) of Quincy, IL; her niece, Karen L. (Mark) Cain of Rocky River, OH; as well as grand-nieces and nephews; and her sweet companion dog, “Ozzie”. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold A. Neitzel, Jr.; her granddaughter, Meghan A. Rosenberg; and her mother, June V. Bunte.

A Celebration of Life will take place in Christ United Methodist Church, 4509 Highcrest Rd., Rockford, IL 61107 on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM, with a visitation from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Rev. Caleb Hong will be officiating the service. There will be a reception immediately following the service at 12:00 PM. A private inurnment will be at Floral Lawns Cemetery in South Beloit, IL at a later date.
