Tom Adland, age 75, a Roscoe, Illinois resident for the past 23 years, formerly of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Monday, September 1, 2025. He was born on December 6, 1949, in Marshalltown to Richard L. and Colleen (Melton) Adland.
Tom was a 1968 graduate of Marshalltown High School and participated in orchestra and swimming. Following high school, he attended Iowa State University where he earned a degree in Industrial Arts. During his college years, he served his country as an enlistee in the Iowa National Guard. Following college graduation, he was employed by Fisher Controls for 23 years. Throughout his professional career of 47 years, Tom touched the lives of many in Coraopolis, PA, Groton, CT, Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, Cincinnati, OH, Torrance, CA, Decorah, IA and Rockford, IL.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lynn; son, Tyler (Hillary) of Detroit, MI; sister, Susan (Paul) Bakken of Centennial, CO; brothers, David (Judy) Adland of Marshalltown, IA, James (Kime) Adland of Council Bluffs, IA and Bret (Brenda) Adland of Thomson, IL; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he held close in his heart. Tom is also remembered by his sisters-in-law, Robin Bartley of Murrieta, CA, Teri (Tom) Tuschak of Mt. Gilead, NC and Debra (John) Garuccio of Crescent, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Jimi Adland.
His interest in cycling led him to ride RAGBRAI with his sister, Susan. Tom’s other interests included building go-karts, working on motorcycles, and stained-glass artwork. It was awe inspiring to see what he could engineer and build.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 13, 2025 in Honquest Family Funeral Homes with Cremator-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111 with a memorial visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
