Ted passed away peacefully at his home on July 11, 2026. Born on January 18, 1961, in Rockford, Illinois, Ted was the son of Robert (Bob) and Delphine (Dean) Mattis. He grew up in Machesney Park and graduated from Harlem High School. Ted was employed by PBC Linear until his illness.
Ted enjoyed camping and snowmobile trips with the guys. He was a devoted hockey fan, whether he was coaching for the Rockford Hockey Club and the Leafs Hockey Club or watching his son, Jeremy, and professional teams play. As long as it involved hockey, he was happy. He also enjoyed auto racing, whether attending races at the local quarter-mile track or NASCAR events. Ted was a huge fan of rock concerts, and his favorite band was Iron Maiden, for whom he had tickets to see later this year.
Ted is survived by his father, Bob Mattis; his son, Jeremy Mattis, and Jeremy's girlfriend, Jillian, along with their daughter, Alicia; and his brother, Rick Mattis, and his wife, Pamela, along with their two sons, Brian Mattis and Paul Mattis. Ted was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Delphine Mattis.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 18, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 663 Ashleigh Lane, Roscoe, IL 61073.
