Teresa Sanchez Marin

Teresa Sanchez Marin, 90, of Zacatecas, Zac., MX., passed away peacefully at home in Rockford, IL, on April 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on October 3, 1935, in Rincón de Romos, Aguascalientes, Mexico, a place she carried in her heart throughout her life. On June 14, 1961, she married the love of her life, Gerardo Esparza Duron, in her hometown. Together, they shared 64 years of devoted marriage, building a life rich in love, family, and treasured memories.

Teresa was a woman of deep and abiding faith, leaning on God through every season of her life. She found joy in the simple, beautiful moments—tending to her garden, feeling the warmth of the sun, and creating with her hands. Whether crocheting something special for a loved one or lifting her voice in song, she shared her gifts freely and lovingly. Her voice was as beautiful as her spirit, and her greatest joy came from caring for her family and spending time together.

Teresa’s warmth, strength, and gentle presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Unity Hospice and the palliative care team for their compassionate support and care during her final days.

She is survived by her husband, Gerardo Esparza Duron; children, Teresa (Juan Manuel) Zepeda, Rocio (Oscar) Alfaro, Fernando (Wendy) Esparza, Olga (Armando) Leyva, Horacio (Emilia) Esparza, Leonel (Alma) Esparza, and Ayde (Juan) Flores; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Preceded in death by her parents, Hilario Sanchez Flores and Concepcion Marin Lara; son, Gerardo “Lalo” Esparza; and daughter, Ma. Dolores Esparza Sánchez.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at Honquest Family Funeral Home-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111, from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.  Funeral mass will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026, at St. Edward Catholic Church, 3004 11th Street, Rockford, IL 61109, at 10:00 AM.

Teresa Sánchez Marín, de 90 años, de Zacatecas, Zac., MX, falleció en paz en su hogar el 20 de abril de 2026, rodeada del amor de su familia. Nació el 3 de octubre de 1935 en Rincón de Romos, Aguascalientes, México, un lugar que siempre llevó en su corazón. El 14 de junio de 1961 contrajo matrimonio con el amor de su vida, Gerardo Esparza Durón, en su tierra natal. Juntos compartieron 64 años de matrimonio lleno de amor, formando una familia y creando recuerdos inolvidables.

Teresa fue una mujer de fe profunda y constante, apoyándose en Dios en cada etapa de su vida. Encontraba alegría en los momentos sencillos y hermosos: cuidar su jardín, sentir el calor del sol y crear con sus manos. Ya fuera tejiendo algo especial para sus seres queridos o elevando su voz en canto, compartía sus dones con amor y generosidad. Su voz era tan hermosa como su espíritu, y su mayor felicidad era cuidar de su familia y pasar tiempo con ellos.

El cariño, la fortaleza y la dulzura de Teresa serán profundamente extrañados y recordados por todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla.

Su familia extiende su más sincero agradecimiento a Unity Hospice y al equipo de cuidados paliativos por su apoyo y compasión durante sus últimos días.

Le sobreviven su esposo, Gerardo Esparza Durón; sus hijos, Teresa (Juan Manuel) Zepeda, Rocío (Óscar) Alfaro, Fernando (Wendy) Esparza, Olga (Armando) Leyva, Horacio (Emilia) Esparza, Leonel (Alma) Esparza y Ayde (Juan) Flores; así como numerosos nietos y bisnietos.

Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Hilario Sánchez Flores y Concepción Marín Lara; su hijo, Gerardo “Lalo” Esparza Sanchez; y su hija, Ma. Dolores Esparza Sánchez.

Se llevará a cabo una velación el domingo 26 de abril de 2026 en Honquest Family Funeral Home - Mulford Chapel, ubicado en 4311 N. Mulford Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111, de 2:30 p.m. a 5:30 p.m. La misa fúnebre se celebrará el lunes 27 de abril de 2026 en St. Edward Catholic Church, 3004 11th Street, Rockford, IL 61109, a las 10:00 a.m.
