Susan R. Swanson

Susan “Sue” Renee Swanson, 70, of Caledonia, IL, died April 30, 2025, surrounded by her family after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Rockford, IL, to Victor and Rose Marie, nee Johnson, Bredeson on December 18, 1954. Sue married Roy Swanson on August 3, 1991.

Sue spent her formative years in Beloit, WI. She received her RN and MSN degrees from the University of Wisconsin and her Neonatal Nurse Practitioner degree from Georgetown University. After a 30-year career as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner with Rockford Memorial Hospital, and its successor Javon Bea Hospital, she retired in December 2019.

She is survived by her husband, Roy; son, Kenneth (Jess Steinhoff) Swanson; bonus daughters, Holly (Jason) Rewerts and Cassie (Kyler) Hartje; grandchildren, Harrison Viren and Ezra Rewerts; brothers, Kent Bredeson and Jim (Cheryl Becker) Bredeson; numerous cousins; and her best friend, Val.

A special thanks to Serenity Hospice and Home for their loving care. A heartfelt thank you to her coworker nursing “family” for their support in her journey, which she greatly appreciated.
