Susan G. Ball

Susan Gail (Schoonover) Ball, 87, of Roscoe, died peacefully in her husband's arms, surrounded by loving family, on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 after a long illness.  Susie was born on March 12, 1937 in Rockford, IL, to Harry and Margaret Schoonover.  She attended Lovejoy Elementary School and Hononegah High School.  She married Donald Ball on December 31, 1954 in Roscoe United Methodist Church.  They celebrated 69 years of marriage this past New Years.

Making Sunday dinners for her family brought her joy.  She was a wonderful cook and baker.  She loved spending time with her grandkids and attending their events and activities.  Many years were spent being "snowbirds" down in Florida where she had fun attending flea markets, making crafts, meeting lifelong friends, and creating memories.  Susie was fond of her flower beds and the beautiful flowers she grew.  In her early days she enjoyed dancing at Waverly Beach, Doyle's Circle K and the Fireman's Ball. 

Susie is survived by her husband, Donnie; her four children, Sherry Ball, Mike (Linda Merritt) Ball, Jeff (Marcie) Ball and Brian (Shelia) Ball; her five grandchildren, Candace (Anthony) Munoz, Michael (Abby Hickman) Ball, Brandyn (Jack) Ball, Leah (Anton Lewandowski) Ball and Logan Ball; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Gary and Chuck Schoonover; sister, Linda (Bud) McAffee; sister-in-law, Dutchess Schoonover; and several nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by her parents and brothers, Bob, Ike and Bill Schoonover.

Funeral service will be at 3:00pm with a visitation from 1:00pm to time of the service on Monday, April 8, 2024 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe, IL 61073.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department.
