Stuart E. Meek

Stuart Emerson Meek, Jr., 62, of Roscoe, IL, suddenly passed on Monday, April 2, 2018 at the home where he and his wife, Jeannie, raised their daughters, Tiffany and Jessica, along with many beloved pets. Stu was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Stuart was born in San Diego, California at the Naval Air Force Base to Stuart E. Meek Sr. and Cynthia Meek (Pearson) on June 18, 1955. The family moved to Machesney Park, IL. Stu graduated from Harlem High School. It was just after graduation when he met his love, Jeannie Attebery at the Root Beer Barrel in Machesney Park. They married on October 4, 1974 and soon after welcomed their two children. His love for his family knew no bounds. He worked 42 years as a machinist and programmer at various machine shops and retired on January 31, 2018. Friends and family celebrated his retirement with a party that he enjoyed immensely. His favorite places were the golf course, the bowling alley, and being in his den in front of his big TV. He indulged his wife and daughters’ love for animals and he loved the numerous four legged friends that they adopted. He loved watching the Chicago Bears, the New York Yankees, and ANY golfing event. He played hard ball, softball, and racquetball for years. He impacted many young lives coaching fast pitch softball, soccer, and basketball. His passion for sports even included referring and umpiring through the Rockford Park District. He received the gift of life May 13, 2011 when he received a new kidney and Jeannie donated one.

Stu never met a stranger, just a new person to talk with and at. Whenever you bumped into him, you were likely to come away with a good joke or story. His numerous friends include all ages and all walks of life. He was looking forward to mentoring all his grandchildren in golf this summer. He believed all five could be the next great golf champion. His love for throwing bon fire parties and lighting fireworks was notorious. In addition to the golf course and the bowling alley, his social scene included going to NorthPointe Wellness in Roscoe, IL. He loved Thanksgiving Holiday the most because it was all about sharing great food and spending time with loved ones. He loved his girls cooking all his favorite dishes at the many family meals year round. He enjoyed traveling with a recent trip to Las Vegas.

In 2013, he was inducted in to The Greater Rockford Area Bowlers Hall of Fame. He bowled more than ten 300 games and more than four 800 series. He bowled in the PBA Expo League every year until he injured his arm two years ago. Determined to keep bowling, he bowled left handed for a year before he could return to right handed. You would find him almost every weekend at Don Carter Lanes bowling in the King of the Hill. In addition to his bowling accomplishments, he scored a hole in one on Number 7 at Atwood on his birthday with witnesses. He was going to work at the Ledges golf course in his retirement to never have a bad day at work.

Stu will be profoundly missed by his selfless wife of 43 years, Jeannie and his beloved daughters Tiffany Meek (Chris Johnson) and Jessica Jones (Scott Jones). He was a proud PAPA of five precious grandchildren; Holden, Smith and Zane Johnson and Olivia and Ethan Jones. His loving surviving siblings include, Susan (fiancé Mark Brege), George, Danita, and Doug Meek and his sister-in-laws Kathy Attebery and Diana (Tim) Bear. Along with his immediate family, he has numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and very special family friends. He also is survived by three rescue dogs that provided him companionship and great joy when spoiling them. He was predeceased by his parents, Stuart and Cynthia.

Family, friends, and others who enjoyed his company are invited to attend the visitation in Honquest Family Funeral Homes with Crematory, Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main St, Roscoe, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 8, 2018, to reminisce, grieve, and support one another. A Service will immediately follow the visitation. A dinner will be held in his honor at the VFW after the service, 11385 Second Street, Roscoe, IL.  In lieu of flowers, please give a memorial in Stu’s name to Noah’s Arks, Harlem Community Center, or the American Kidney Fund.
