Steven J. Yates

Steven J. Yates, 70, of Loves Park, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021.  Born in Rockford on March 12, 1951 to James and Virginia (Hall) Yates.  Married Margaret Stiles on October 25, 1975.  He was a 1969 graduate of Harlem High School and also graduated from Illinois State University.  He was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and a lifetime member, officer and board member of the Lyran Club.  He retired after 36 years from Borg Warner/GKN.  Steve was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and loved working in his yard and growing flowers.

He is survived by his wife, Maggie; sons, Matthew (Jaime), Adam (Kehaulani Purdy) and Daniel (Heather); special nieces, Jennifer (Alex) Jeschke and Stephanie (Milos) Knezevic; special sister-in-law, Lori Cass; Maggie’s siblings; “the outlaws”; uncle, Dr. Jerome Yates; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents and brother, Mark Yates and his wife, Young.

Funeral service will be at 10:30am on Saturday, October 16, 2021 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park.  Visitation will be Friday, October 15, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.  Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family or Mending Hearts Animal Rescue.
