Shirley Mae Schultz

Shirley Mae (Margis) Schultz, 96, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, with her family by her side.

Born on April 4, 1930, in Oglesby, Illinois, Shirley was the daughter of Frank and Grace (Linnerud) Margis. After graduating from South Beloit High School, she went on to work in medical administration at the Beloit Clinic, where she dedicated many years of service.

Above all else, Shirley was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother whose family brought her endless joy. She found great happiness in spending time with those she loved and took pride in watching her family grow through the generations.

A woman of deep and abiding faith, Shirley was a member of Roscoe United Methodist Church, where her trust in God served as a guiding light throughout her life. She enjoyed keeping her mind active through puzzles, especially word books and Sudoku. Gifted with creativity and patience, she spent many hours handcrafting beautiful greeting cards and knitting thoughtful gifts for family and friends.

Shirley is lovingly survived by her son, Dean (Donna) Schultz of Roscoe; her daughters, Rebecca (Willis) Miller of Roscoe and Tena Ostrum of Rockton; her grandchildren, Amy, Aaron, Daniel, Joseph, Michael and Kristen; her great-grandchildren, Austin, Sammy, Tyler, Aubrey, Natalee, Benjamin, Cecilia, Brenna, Charlotte, and Lydia; one great-great-grandchild on the way; her brother, Larry (Nancy) Margis of Roscoe; her sisters, Evelyn Tranbarger of Ohio and Linda Gilbert of South Beloit; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Grace Margis; her beloved husband, William “Joe” Schultz of Beloit; her grandson, Jeffery Schultz; her brothers, Donald and Gilbert Margis; and her sister, Lyla Williams of South Beloit. 

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many individuals who provided care, comfort, and support to Shirley and her loved ones during her final days. Special thanks are extended to the staff of Hospice Care, the doctors and staff at Mercy Health, Dr. Tecarro and Dr. Leo of Beloit, Pastor Ryan and the congregation of Roscoe United Methodist Church, the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department, the staff at Stepping Stone, the directors and staff of Honquest Family Funeral Home, and the many family members and friends for the outpouring of sympathy and support. To all of you, your kindness and compassion mean so much.

Shirley's gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and love for her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A visitation for Shirley will take place on August 8th, 2026, at Roscoe United Methodist Church, 10816 Main Street, Roscoe, IL 61073 from 10:00 to 11:00am. A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Ryan Sutton, will follow at 11:00am.
