Shirley Hatfield, 85, of Rockford, passed away at home surrounded by her family on April 3, 2024. She was born on November 29, 1938 to Albert and Rose (Stanek) Fanta in Union, Wisconsin. She graduated from West Lima High School and attended UW Whitewater. Shirley married Ronald Hatfield on February 22, 1958. They ran a successful service station business for many years. Later she worked at Schnucks (formerly Hilander/Kroger) as a cashier and front-end manager for over 30 years. She also worked part-time at Fannie Mae Candies at CherryVale Mall for years. Shirley enjoyed family get togethers and trips to Las Vegas. She enjoyed watching cooking shows and she never saw a cookbook that she didn’t love. She had a generous heart and always put others before herself.
Shirley is survived by her son, Kevin (Ninda) Hatfield; daughters, Tisa Hatfield and Valerie (Ronald) Piasecki; grandchildren, Stephanie (Ricky) Coons, Ashley (Grant) Calvin, Christopher (Amber) Piasecki and Trevor (Lyndsey) Hatfield; great-grandchildren, Jagger, Hudson, Annabelle, Raegan, Maverick and Alexander, with two great-granddaughters on the way. Shirley is predeceased by her parents; brother, Leo Fanta; and sisters, Bessie Dvorak and Eleanor Todd.

Memorial service will be at 11:00am with a visitation from 10:00am until the service on Friday, April 19, 2024 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park, IL 61111. Burial in Vernon Cemetery, Hillsboro, WI at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Northern Illinois Hospice.
