Scott Laman Obituary

Scott Eric Laman of Machesney Park, Illinois, passed away suddenly on June 20, 2026.

Scott was born on August 17, 1967, to Laverne "Bud" Laman and Jeanette (VanRaalte) Paddock. He was a proud 1985 graduate of Stillman Valley High School. Shortly after graduation, Scott joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Sacramento, California. After his service, he returned home, where he was a volunteer firefighter with the Cherry Valley Fire Department, as well as a member of its dive team. After moving to Machesney Park, Scott became a volunteer firefighter with the North Park Fire Department.

In his 40s, Scott joined the Army Reserve and was deployed to Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. During his service in both branches of the Armed Forces, Scott received numerous ribbons and medals, including the Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, among others. Scott was proud to serve his country, and his family is equally proud of him for his service.

Scott was an avid hobbyist whose interests included growing indoor fruits and vegetables, crocheting, model car racing, paintball, and, most recently, smoking meats. He was a gamer through and through, being the first kid in the neighborhood to own an Atari and a Commodore 64, purchased with money he and his brother Shawn earned through their joint paper route business venture. He was a lifelong learner with a brilliant mind and knew a little bit regarding just about everything.

Scott is survived by his mother and stepfather, Jeanette and Allen Paddock; his father, Laverne "Bud" Laman and his wife, Terry; his sons, Cody and Cameron Laman; his sisters, Melisa (Ron) Staver, Miranda (Claudio) Giraldi, and Alyssa Paddock; his brothers, Joseph (Selena) Paddock; his nieces, AnnaGrace, Maci, Lyla, and Kennedi; his nephews, Shawn, Logan, Vincenzo, Massimo, and Wesley; and a very large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss him very much.

Scott was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his best friend and brother, Shawn Laman; and his brother, Eric Paddock.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and Scott will be interred with his beloved brother, Shawn. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to your favorite charity in his honor. More than anything, tell your family and friends how much they mean to you every single day.
