Sally Dunn Obituary

Sally Carol (Schewe) Dunn, 76, of Roscoe, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023.  She was born May 3, 1947 in Rockford to Clarence H. and Lois M. (Sandehn) Schewe.  Sally grew up in the country and was in the first 1st Grade at the newly constructed Pleasant View Consolidated School on Gleasman Road, Rockford, IL.  It was a 4-classroom school with two grades in each classroom and no kindergarten as the school bus picked up everyone in the area of Owen Twp, Harrison Twp and parts of Roscoe and Rockton Twps.  Almost all of the children were in the 4-H Club and if you wanted to play a sport, you were on the team, and any girl that wanted to be, could be a cheerleader.  PTA meetings were a potluck and social gathering for all.  She graduated from Hononegah High School in the first class over 100 (the previous year had 98).

Sally's working years were spent as a file clerk at WF & John Barnes; a directory assistance operator for Illinois Bell Telephone; a route salesman for American Fastener; and a delivery person for Kades Motor Parts before being employed at Rockford Memorial Hospital, working in the Receiving Dock/Storeroom, Respiratory Care and Materials Management where she retired from after 30 years.

Between cross-stitching and sewing, beginning at the age of 10, she made many, many clothing items, samplers, seasonal curtains, drapes and quilts.  She was a Brownie leader when her daughters were young and survived sharing the experience of dividing the cookies to the troops in Rockton.  She enjoyed working on the family ancestry in later years and going with her husband, JR, to the Roscoe area cruise nights and car shows in the area, winning several trophies and making many friends over the years in their 1929 Ford Model A pickup that he painted bright tangerine orange with a 348 Chevy engine that he called a "Rat Rod".

Sally married Truman (JR) Dunn on October 4, 1968 at the United Methodist Church in Roscoe, IL.  They were blessed with two daughters, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Truman (JR); daughters, Jill D. (Arthur Robert, Jr.) Landwehr and Cynthia A. Dunn; grandchildren, Kristina L. Dunn (Anthony Wood), Thomas L. Dunn-Landwehr (Jessica Miller), Kayla M. (Ryan) Taft, Ciara H. Landwehr, Madyson T. Schaefermeyer and Harmonnie R. Blakely; great-grandchildren, Kyra, Klover, Kannan, Katiri, Kaisley, David, Liliana, Kent, Layne, Nora and Kaiden.  Also survived by brothers-in-law, Ronald (Phyllis) Dunn, Frank (Dixie) Dunn and Ronald Breseman; sisters-in-law, Harrette Royce, Dorothy Dunn and Christiana (Larry) William; several nephews, nieces and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; grandson, Taylor M. Dunn; brother, Michael Schewe; brother-in-law, Douglas Royce; sister-in-law, Lila A. Breseman; her cousin who was like a brother to her, Robert Schewe; nephews, Lonnie Williams and Kelvin Royce; and niece, Dawn Royce.

A celebration of her life will be held on May 4, 2024, at the VFW in Roscoe, IL., 11385 2nd St, Roscoe, IL 61073.
