Ruth A. McCollum

Ruth A. McCollum, 97, passed away May 25, 2022.  She was born November 19, 1924 to Malcolm and Tyra (Johnson) Carlson.  Graduated from West High School in 1943 and Swedish American School of Nursing 1946.

Married James W. McCollum November 1, 1960.  She enjoyed a long nursing career and was employed at St. John's Crippled Children's Hospital, during and following the Polio Epidemic, Springfield IL and Swedish American Hospital, Winnebago County Health Department and retiring from Sundstrand in 1989. 

Member of St. Rita's Church for over 30 years. Volunteered as a medical driver in Belvidere and helped serve the hungry at St. Elizabeth's.  Ruth enjoyed her family, traveling and all crafts.

Survivors include son, Mike (Chris) McCollum; daughters, Pam (Dave) Scantlin and Terri McCollum; grandchildren, Luke (Ashley) McCollum, Sydney and Kylie Scantlin, Deven Ekstrom; great-grandson, Clayton McCollum; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Jim; parents; sisters, Harriett Antinucci, Helen Haddad and Eleanor Bovi.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 30, 2022 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory – Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park with a service to follow at 11:00 AM to celebrate the life of Ruth. Private burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials to Center of Hope, Rockford Rescue Mission and Growth Enterprises.
