It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Russell Elliott Hall, or as friends and family knew him, “Buzz.” He left us on May 17, 2026, after a lengthy battle with heart issues and bladder cancer.
He was born on January 20, 1948, in Rockford, IL, to Russell Erwin Hall and Maxine Hall (Shook). He worked for 30 years at Testor Corp in Rockford, followed by Anderson Packaging, and a small security job in his last few years.
He was also very proud of his military service. He served in the Army in the 101st Airborne. He was an E5 Sargent Medic from October 1967 to May 1969.
Buzz was a son, brother, husband, father, pawpaw, and friend. He touched many lives with his kindness, generous heart, and fun-loving spirit. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, fast-pitch softball, and watching sports. In the last few years, he really enjoyed his “board meetings” with his friends.
He is survived by his children, Michael (Lisa) Hall, Matthew (Deborah) Hall, and Kyle Hall; Ex-Wife, Gayle Treend; sister, Sue Marin; niece, Stephanie Lentz; nephew, Ray Bowers; grandchildren, Taylor Hall, Mackenzie Hall, Madison Hall, and Brooklyn Hall; extended family, Roger and Connie Ruden, who will all cherish his memory and continue his legacy. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Erwin Hall; mother, Maxine Hall; sister, Norma Kirkland; and nephew, Tom Bowers.
We would like to thank the staff at William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans’ Hospital for their excellent care and concern all the way to his final moments.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 23rd, 2026, at Honquest Family Funeral Home, 4311 N. Mulford Rd. Loves Park, IL, 61111, at 11:00 AM, with visitation starting at 10:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow at Kishwaukee Cemetery.
