Roy R. Smith

Roy Smith, 79, of Poplar Grove, IL passed away May 17, 2023, in Madison, WI.

Roy was born in Chippewa, WI on February 8, 1944, to his parents Rexford Smith and Frances Ryman. Roy graduated from Chippewa Falls High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy around February of 1962 and was honorably discharged in 1965. Roy went on to marry the love of his life, Joyce Smith on March 20, 1971 in Rockford, IL. Together, they shared a beautiful life and many memories. Joyce passed away December 12, 2021. Roy worked at Longview Fiber for many years.

Roy had many interests and hobbies throughout his life, but one of his favorites was vintage tractors. He loved working on and learning all about the different vintage tractors. He was even a long-time member of the Northern Illinois Vintage Tractor & Engine Association. Aside from tractors, he loved the Chicago Cubs. Above all else, his true love and passion in this world was his family. He will be dearly missed by so many.

Survived by his children, Rex (Jeannette) Smith, Reggie Smith, Vicky (Brian) Smith, and Tammara Mathews; step sons, John, Mark, and Robert Wellman; grandchildren, Rylee, Preston, Jianna, Lexi, Kayla, Johnathan, Gary, and Jordan; siblings, Doris, Roberta, Charles, Larry, and Gary.

Preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Smith; grandchild, Jericho; siblings, Bernice, Carol, Arlene, Clarence, and Richard.

Funeral service will be at 11:30 A.M. with a visitation from 10:30 A.M. until the time of service on Friday, May 26, 2023 in Honquest Family Funeral Home Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe, IL 61073.  Flowers, donations, and condolences may be offered at the funeral home.
