Ronald "Ron" Smith

Ronald “Ron” Smith, 73, passed away May 21, 2021. He was born to Otis and Bessie Smith in El Reno, OK on July 20, 1947. Moved to Rockford in 1950. Graduated from Guilford High School and went on to own his own welding company, Interstate Welding and Tank Repair, for 25 years. Ron enjoyed collecting coins and gem stones.

Ron is survived by his mother, Bessie Smith; 2 daughters, April Briggs, Kelly Smith; grandchildren, Taylor Opsahl, Jacob and Jesse Briggs; great grandchildren, Sophia, Jaxx, Natalia, Gianna; brothers, Jack, Mark; sisters, Karen, Harriett; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ron is predeceased by his father, Rev. Otis Smith.

Graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2021 in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park. A luncheon will be held immediately following the graveside service at Lyran Club, 1115 4th Avenue, Rockford.
