Ronald J. Gohl

Ronald J. Gohl, 85, of Wonder Lake passed away quietly at Northwestern Medical Center with his family by his bedside on April 26, 2023.  Ron led a life of service, always putting his wife Trudie, his family, his community, and those in need before himself.

Ron was born on August 25, 1937 in Chicago, IL to Charles and Louise (Frank) Gohl. He lived with his parents and his siblings, Marian and Carl. Marian raised Ron as her own after the early passing of their mother.

Ron was married to Trudie Gohl for 65 years and they have 7 children, Cindy, Curt, David, Christopher, Richard, Sean and Michelle.

Ron and Trudie have 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Scott, Kathleen, Emily, Trevor, Andrew, Benjamin, Vanessa, Krista, and Justin in addition to 11 great-grandchildren, Faye, Penny, Elisa Mae, Randy, Ryland, Kora, Alivia, Klaira, Remy, Fynn and Destiny. 

Ron was “Other Dad” to Joe and Jeff Deike.  He and Trudie opened their home to 28 foster children over the years. 

Not a day of his life went by that Ron was not in service to others. He retired from People’s Gas with 40 years of service.  He served on the District 36 School Board for many years, and the Indian Ridge and Master Property Owners associations in Wonder Lake.  In addition to these boards, he also donated his time to Sedom, The Pioneer Center, and Misericordia Home in Chicago where his son Sean lives.  Ron delivered Holy Communion for the Homebound for Shepherd of the Hills Church.  Ron worked hard, provided for his family, and always made time to give back to his community.

Ron did not wish to be eulogized. He acted with generosity without expectation or desire for praise or recognition. He was a good man and will be dearly missed.

Funeral service will be at 11:00am with a visitation from 10:00am until the service on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 in Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 404 N. Green Street, McHenry, IL 60050.  Graveside service will be at 2:00pm in Christ the King Cemetery, East Wonder Lake Road, Wonder Lake, IL 60097.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting any donations be sent in Sean Gohl’s name, #6193-A, to Misericordia Home, 6300 N Ridge Ave, Chicago, IL 60660.
