Roger P. Smith

Roger P. Smith, 68, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22, 2024 with his family surrounding him.  He was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on July 4, 1955, to Romaine and Phyllis Smith.  He worked as an auto body specialist for 40 plus years.  Roger enjoyed his work as an auto body guy.  He loved helping people out whether he was fixing someone’s car, making food for a benefit or someone who was not well, taking care of many animals who needed some love, and making etched glass memorial pictures.  He enjoyed fishing, building things, and feeding the birds, squirrels and just enjoying the outdoors.

He is survived by his children, Jessica (John) Keller and Danny (Talitha) Smith; grandchildren, David, Carter, Matthew, Jake and Christopher Keller; siblings, Ronald (Pat) Smith, Romaine (Brenda) Smith, Kay (Steve) Elhers, Rodney Smith, Milly (Kurt) Kirchner and Ruth Ann Smith; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; brothers, Robert and Doug; and sisters,Phyllis and Barb.

We would like to thank the 2nd floor nursing staff at Swedish American; they took amazing care of Roger and his family during this difficult time. 

Memorial Service will be at 11:00 AM, with a Memorial Visitation from 10:00 AM until the service on Saturday, July 6, 2024 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe, IL 61073.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family for funeral arrangements.
