Roger A. Ebert

Roger Ebert, 74, of Roscoe, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026 after a lengthy illness.  

Growing up on a farm instilled in Roger a strong work ethic and an appreciation of the natural beauty of northern Illinois. After high school he pursued a career in floral arrangement and went on to achieve recognition for both his design and teaching abilities.  Roger traveled to the far corners of the world, sharing the art of floral arranging along with his knowledge of techniques. He would speak of those trips fondly and considered his time spent teaching to be one of his most satisfying accomplishments.  

Managing busy flower shops in the suburbs of Chicago was next for Roger, then family matters brought him to Roscoe where he looked after his mother and worked for many years in the flower shop at Crimson Ridge in Rockford.  Roger produced the most spectacular arrangements with consistency and finesse. It’s not surprising that customers would become regulars that sought him out for his expertise and design choices. He cared for people and it was important to please them.  Those that worked with him remember him for his focus and drive and the times when there’d be a laugh or a shared story. Truly Roger was one of a kind and he will be missed by his Crimson Ridge family.

Visitation will be from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Sunday, May 17, 2026 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe, IL 61073.  Burial in Willowbrook Cemetery, Roscoe.
