Roger Eugene Bourgord, 77, of Loves Park, Illinois, passed away in Florida with his daughter, Victoria, by his side. He was born on April 24, 1949, in Necedah, Wisconsin, to Vernon and Mabel (Bauer) Bourgord.
Roger attended school in his hometown before enlisting in the United States Air Force after graduation. He proudly served on active duty for six years and continued his military service in the National Guard Reserves for an additional nineteen years, dedicating a total of 25 years to serving his country. Roger was deeply proud of his military service and the time he spent defending our nation.
While stationed in South Korea during his time in the Air Force, Roger met the love of his life, Sun Cha. The two were united in marriage on October 20, 1973. Together they settled in the Rockford area, where they raised their children and built a beautiful life together over 47 years of marriage before Sun Cha’s passing on June 28, 2021.
Roger worked for many years at National Lock in Rockford until the plant closed in 1982. He continued his career in the manufacturing and industrial field throughout the Rockford area until his retirement.
Above all else, Roger cherished his family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially traveling to Sanford, Florida, to visit his daughter Victoria and her family. Roger also enjoyed being outdoors and fishing whenever he had the opportunity. At home, he could often be found watching game shows or WWE wrestling matches, and he especially enjoyed playing solitaire.
Roger is survived by his loving children, Hui Sun Furlong, Victoria (Gary) Noll, Rosanna (Brian) Pierce, and Keowoon Cho; grandchildren, Ronan, Brendan, and Evelyn Furlong, Darrien and Tristan Noll, and Kendra and Logan Pierce; sister, Arlene Austin; brother, Boyd Bourgord; numerous nieces and nephews; many dear friends; and his beloved cat, Oreo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Sun Cha; son-in-law, Ciaran Furlong; brothers, Michael, Clyde, Arnold, Victor, and Reynold; and sisters, Beulah, Della, Donna, Charlotte, Sheila, and Sona.
Roger’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the Lake Nona VA Medical Center in Orlando, Florida, for the compassionate care they provided.
A visitation for Roger will take place on May 15th, 2026, at Honquest Funeral Home from 3:00 to 6:00pm. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation. A burial with Military honors will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville, Illinois, on May 16th at 11:00am.
