Rodney "Rod" Hansen Obituary

Rodney "Rod" N. Hansen, 77, of Rockford, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2020. He was born on April 13, 1943 in Devils Lake, South Dakota to Sidney and Delaine (Bymers) Hansen. 

Rod retired from Belvidere Chrysler in 1996 after 31 years of service. He was an active member of East Side Church of Christ and the SM&SF Club.

Rod was a devoted husband, loving father and the best grandpa, his family meant the world to him. He loved spending time at the farm and deer hunting. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Hansen and Delaine Harter; his son, Joseph Johnson and daughter-in-law, Kathy Johnson. He is survived by Doris, his wife of 43 memorable years. He is also survived by his sister, Harlean McCarthy; brother, Delray (Donna) Retzlaff; two sons, Donald (Kelly) Hansen, Gary Johnson; four daughters, Debbie (Joel) Rinehart, Anne Minch, Vicki Dobbs, Jeannie (Boyce) Wallin; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

The family will always be grateful for the care that Rod received from OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center and would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses in 2 North, Critical Care Unit staff and nurse Caroline. 

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2020 in Honquest Family Funeral Homes with Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Rd., Loves Park, Illinois 61111 with a visitation from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial in New Milford Cemetery with luncheon to follow at East Side Church of Christ.
