Robert "Buzzy" Goodrich Obituary

Robert "Buzzy" T. Goodrich, 73, of Roscoe, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024.  Robert was born on August 18, 1951 in Rockford, the son of Robert C. Goodrich and Georgia E. (Potter) Goodrich, and they raised him in New Milford, IL. Robert has five siblings, Melinda, Sandra, Connie, Erin and Frank. He graduated from Guilford High School class of 1969. He then enlisted in the United States Army in 1970 and served for four years, one of those years being stationed at Pleiku, Vietnam. When he returned, he met the love of his life Marcia (Smith) Goodrich of New Orleans and they married on October 10, 1975 in Rockton, IL. Robert and Marcia had two sons, Aaron in 1976 and Jeffrey in 1980.

He graduated from Rock Valley College with certifications in electronics and he worked at several places in the Rockford area.  Robert was a lifetime member of the VFW and was active in veterans affairs and other causes. Robert was a lifetime avid fan of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs; he loved nothing better than to discuss his favorite teams with his friends and family, whom he loved to spend time with. He enjoyed playing his guitar and woodworking, just like his Dad. He loved to play chess and he enjoyed riding his Norton motorcycle and working on cars when he was younger.  He also loved to go on boat rides. He enjoyed playing blackjack at the casinos, as he and Marcia went on day trips and out to eat. He had a great sense of humor and he loved to watch Monty Python and Mel Brooks movies, although he and Marcia gave each other a hard time about his wife’s “British shit”.  If you knew him, you would know that he wasn’t afraid to drop the proverbial “F bomb”, when appropriate.

Robert is survived by his mother, Georgia E. Goodrich; his wife of 49 years, Marcia (Smith) Goodrich; sons, Aaron (Kim) Goodrich of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Jeffrey (April) Goodrich of Lansing, Michigan; grandsons, Caleb, Carter and Connor Goodrich; granddaughters, Trinity and Felicity Goodrich; older sister, Melinda (Ashley “Dave”) Davis; younger sisters, Sandra Brinker, Connie Goodrich and Erin Goodrich–Earles; younger brother, Frank Goodrich; and numerous nephews and nieces.  He was predeceased by his father, Robert C. Goodrich; his father-in-law, William D. Smith; mother-in-law, Leah Bourdet Smith; sister-in-law, Peggy Smith Sleaman; brother-in-law, William “Bill” Brinker; and his nephew, Willie Guzman.
