Rick’s life was a testament to unwavering love, dedication and humor that brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was a constant in our lives, as a devoted son, brother, uncle, dad, husband, and papa. He attended many games, offering cheers and advice that guided us both on and off the field. His daily phone calls were a source of comfort and connection, a reminder of his steadfast presence. No matter what, Rick was always there, supporting us through challenges with acts of service and showing up in ways that mattered most. He was the kind of Dad/Uncle/Papa every child, grandchild, niece and nephew dreamed of, whether playing in the basement, or making chocolate chip pancakes, or keeping a steady supply of Gushers ready for their visits. His playful spirit created cherished memories, like going to Culver’s for dinner during sleepovers or his delight in sharing lunch dates and quiet TV time. Rick’s humor and quirks made life brighter. From his thick wool socks that turned him into a sneaky shocker, literally, to his enduring joke of suggesting Home Alone for movie night because of how often it was watched. A favorite memory is from a home inspection when Rick tagged along to help us avoid being scammed, we found a rotary phone, and he was thrilled to see it still working so he called Stacy simply to say he was calling from a rotary phone; a small moment of joy that perfectly captured his playful nature. Generous with his time and knowledge, he was always ready to lend a hand. Whether helping to finish a basement after long days at work or passing on skills to those willing to learn, he was a teacher in the truest sense. His quiet presence during projects and his insistence on doing things the right way created lasting lessons and treasured memories. From watching football together every Sunday, snacks on the couch, cheering for his favorite teams, to simply being the first to check in when someone was sick. Rick’s love was a steady current in our lives. His laughing about his niece’s obsession with a certain airplane magnet, or the way he said “Hi” with a unique warmth that will never be forgotten. His humor, kindness and unwavering support leave a legacy that will live on in all of us. He showed us how to love deeply, laugh often and cherish the little moments. You were our rock, our guide and our greatest blessing.
Rick had a long and successful career beginning at Zenith Cutter which led to an opportunity to become a world traveler in the Aerospace industry. After being recruited into a key management role of an elite team in the creation and startup of the BE Aerospace facility at the Greater Rockford Airport, he secured the position of managing and directing all manufacturing at Danfoss Drives in Loves Park.
A private memorial will be held for the family, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
