Richard "Rick" E. Meyer

Richard “Rick” Earl Meyer, 69, of Machesney Park, IL, returned to his heavenly home on Thursday, September 30, 2021. Born September 5, 1952 in Rockford, Illinois to Thomas and Behrle (Manning) Meyer. He graduated from Pecatonica High School in 1970. In high school, Rick enjoyed playing football, basketball, and baseball. He was also heavily involved in the Pecatonica choral program that won at state his senior year. After high school, Rick studied forestry at Western Illinois University. He married the love of his life, Wendy Herbig, on February 17, 1979.  He was a precision machinist at Woodward Governor for 34½ years. Rick was heavily involved in his church. He enjoyed singing on the worship team, providing special music, and leading men’s groups. Rick also loved to sing with his friends in Professions of Faith. He was an avid and long-suffering Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan; many a Sunday was spent yelling at the refs and/or players.  His grandchildren were the light of his life. Papa spent his time making beautiful memories and creating special traditions that will be cherished by them forever.  

Richard is survived by his wife, Wendy Meyer; sons, Eric (April) Meyer, Rick (Chelsy) Meyer; his precious grandchildren, Damien Meyer, Lila Meyer, Audrey Meyer, and Dominick Meyer. He is also survived by his sisters Judy (Mern) Clark and Peggy Cramp; sisters-in-law, Candy (Doyle) Redmon, Merianne (Bob) Larrabee; brother-in-law, Donn (Terry) Herbig; many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Earl and Elsie Herbig; sister, Pat Lupa; brother, Thomas W. Meyer, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Vicki Cardenas. 

Memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Gentle Shepherd Fellowship, 2905 Bildahl Street, Rockford 61109, with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
