Richard Mearl Yock entered heaven on July 3, 2024 with his wife, Ann, and his daughters, Elizabeth and Julie, by his side. He was a beloved father who was so wonderfully described by Ann as a fine loaf of French bread - crusty on the outside, but warm and soft on the inside. Born in Tipton, Iowa on April 16, 1936, to William and Alice (Murray) Yock, Dick had three brothers, Paul, William, and Roland. He loved playing sports and participated in football and basketball during his time at Tipton High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army where he worked as a Microwave Technician, spending part of the time in Frankfurt, Germany.
He married Darlene (Terrock) Yock in Clinton, Iowa on July 9, 1960. He attended St. Ambrose University and graduated from the University of Iowa. He passed the CPA exam and eventually became a partner in an international accounting firm. He started his professional career in the Quad Cities and transferred to Rockford, IL in 1970.
Dick and Darlene had two daughters, Elizabeth and Julie. The family enjoyed time together and road trips throughout the United States. Great memories include the Rocky Mountains, Cape Cod, and family visits in Iowa. Their favorite destination was the Jackson Hole, Wyoming area, where they traveled several times. During their trips at Christmas, they loved to ski, swim in hot springs, and snowmobile in Yellowstone. Another highlight was spending a month in Europe the summer of 1983, where Dick drove them through Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein in a lime green van. Other treasured memories include time at home on Thornwood Drive. Dick enjoyed working in the yard and had several treasured friendships in the neighborhood.
On December 31, 1989, Dick married Ann (Redus) Karlberg in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. They enjoyed their home on the lake in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, where they spent time with family and friends and Dick perfected his grilling skills for the best hamburgers and brats in the midwest. They spent many years traveling throughout Europe, one time visiting his ancestral home in Germany and another time sailing through the Greek Isles.
Dick was active in the Rockford community. He served as President of the Alpine Kiwanis Club and on the Boards at Rockford Christian School and the Creekside condo association.
In his later years, he enjoyed walking on the bike path along the Rock River and through the Sinnissippi Gardens. A life-long sports fan, he cheered on the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed sharing the story of how his daughters gave him one share of stock in the Packers and how he was able to meet many of the former players. Dick enjoyed following current events and politics. Whether listening to Rush Limbaugh or watching FOX News, he always knew what was happening in the world and was looking forward to voting for Donald Trump again in the fall.
Dick is survived by his wife, Ann Karlberg; daughters, Elizabeth Yock and Julie Yock; stepsons, Barry (Linda) Holdcroft and Boyd (Angela) Holdcroft; numerous in-laws, including Gloria Yock and Etta Kelly; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. And the world’s best cat, Squishy.
The family would like to thank the staff at P.A. Peterson at The Citadel for their care in his final months.
No public service is planned.
