Rebecca “Becky” Louise Matherly, of Belvidere, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, after a long decline due to dementia. She was born on July 31, 1952.
Becky shared nearly 50 years of marriage with the love of her life, Melvin Matherly. Their love story was one that family and friends remembered fondly. After meeting, they quickly knew they were meant to be and married just a few short months later. Together, they built a life filled with family, quiet moments, and many road trips.
Becky found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved reading, watching forensic television shows, and anything paranormal. In her younger years, she enjoyed spending time outdoors with family and creating memories together. She especially cherished long drives and sightseeing adventures with her beloved husband.
As a grandmother, Becky hoped to share her love of books with her grandchildren and enjoyed reading stories to them. She also hosted a yearly holiday cookie bake that became a special tradition for the family. Becky had a stubborn, feisty spirit that remained with her throughout life and brought a spark of personality that those who knew her will remember.
Becky is remembered by her daughter, Sarah, and son, Travis (Katie); her sister, Sue Johnson; and her brother, John Barrenger (Hung-Hsueh). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Samantha, Danielle, Caiden, Cassidy, Christian, Emily, Natalie, Oliver, and her great-grandchild, Xara. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melvin Matherly; her daughter, Erin; and many beloved siblings.
A small private funeral service will be held in the near future.
