Promise K. Slater

Promise Kay Slater, 18, born on January 17, 2003 to Mandy and Shawn Slater passed away on June 19, 2021 surrounded by family. Promise graduated from Belvidere High School in May. She was a friendly face who loved her job and co-workers at Pacemaker. She was looking forward to buying her first car this summer. 

Promise was a unique, quiet and loving soul. She was silly and outgoing. She would always look for the best in people. She had a smile that would light up a room. 

Promise had so much love for her two sidekicks, her brothers. They had the best love/hate relationship. She could be mean and pick on them but no one else was allowed to. She truly loved them and will forever be watching over them. 

Promise had a genuine love for animals. She especially loved the majestic-ness of elephants. Her favorite color was purple and she enjoyed star watching. 

Promise had so much love to share and was taken from us way too early. She surely will never be forgotten and will live on in all of our hearts. 

Promise is lovingly survived by her mom, Mandy Slater; her two brothers, Lil Man (Jason Jr.) and Chance Asbury; her Dad Jason (wife Stephanie) Asbury,  Shawn Slater; and her two younger sisters;  her boyfriend, Collin DeRos; her favorite Uncle Brandon (wife Jennifer) Riley; her "Baba" Gary Riley and great-grandparents, Ron and Connie Bone. She has four grandfathers and three grandmothers; six   uncles; six aunts; many cousins and great cousins. Promise comes from a very large family and the list truly would never end. Each and everyone of you know how much she loved and cared for you. 

Promise was greeted in heaven by her Great-Great-Grandma Cummings; Great-Grandma Betty Riley, her Nana Terry Riley; Grandma Evelyn (Cookie) Asbury and Roger Follis who gave his life trying to save her and their 3 dogs, Lewis (Big Kid), Daisy and Pee Wee. 

Rest easy Our Angel you will forever be loved and missed. 

Funeral service will be held at 3:00pm with a visitation from 1:00pm until the service on Sunday, June 27, 2021 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park.
