Phyllis Lorraine Jensen (Gustin), 85, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2025, in Rockford, Illinois. Born on August 22, 1939, in Danville, Illinois, Phyllis lived a life filled with love, faith, and devotion to family. She graduated from Hononegah High School in Rockton, Illinois, in 1957. After attending cosmetology school, she built a successful career as a hairstylist, working from her in-home beauty salon for many years. Her talent and warm personality made her a beloved figure among those she served.
Shortly after high school, Phyllis met the love of her life, Donald G. Jensen. They married on March 11, 1961, and together built a life centered on their deep love for each other and their family. They raised four children, Susan L. Jensen, Brenton G. Jensen (Joanne), Stacey C. Powell, and Courtney J. Pehl (Phillip). Phyllis cherished her role as a mother and later as a grandmother to Clayton G. Jensen, Taylor C. Lopez (Peter), Hunter A.J. Pehl, and Tanner B. Pehl. She was also blessed to be a great-grandmother to Axel C. Lopez. Phyllis is predeceased by her parents, Roy and Norma Gustin; as well as her sisters, Joan Becker and Martha Nabors.
Phyllis’s faith was an essential part of her life. Early in her marriage, she developed a deep appreciation for the Bible through an in-depth study that led to her baptism as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1974 in Dixon, Illinois. She instilled this faith in her children, considering it the most precious gift she could give them. Her family finds comfort in the same hope she held dear—that Jehovah God will soon bring “the last enemy, death, to nothing” (1 Cor. 15:26) and fulfill His promise to resurrect “all those in their memorial tombs” (John 5:28-29).
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Anam Care, Anam Glen and Hope Hospice for their compassionate care during Phyllis’s time there. The loving care she received will never be forgotten.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1905 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, Illinois, 61108. A memorial service will follow at the same location at 3:00 PM.
