Peter A. Powell

Peter Alvah Powell passed away at home on February 9, 2024 at the age of 75. Peter was born in Oneida, New York on February 9, 1949. He graduated from Wheaton High School in 1967 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland in 1971. He worked as a Reporter for the Elgin Courier News, Director of Communication for Judson College Elgin, and Writer/Editor for Business News Publishing before retiring in 2016. Peter enjoyed being a member of Parks Kiwanis. He was a longtime missionary partner at Redeemer Church, Rockford.

Peter is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sanda; son, Adam of Elgin; two sisters, Lisa Gossart of Alexandria, VA; Mary Meng of Rockville, MD; and brother, Tom of Leland, NC. Peter is predeceased by his daughter, Sarah; brother, Michael; and parents, Roland and Helen (MacDonald) Powell. 

A celebration of life will be held at Redeemer Church, Rockford, 5501 Windsor Rd., Loves Park, IL, on Saturday, February, 24 at 11:00 AM, preceded by a visitation at 10:00 AM, with Pastor John Dirkse officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Redeemer Church, Rockford.
