Oliver "Ozzie" Webb Obituary

Oliver “Ozzie” Perry Webb, 91, of Rockford passed into his eternal life November 29, 2022. Ozzie was born on December 17, 1930 in Rockford, IL, the second son of Mildred and Eddie Webb. He married his high school sweetheart Mary Ann Heitzman on October 18, 1952. They went on to have 8 children, Cyndy (Cruz) Padron, Chris (Doug) Block, Mike (Kathie) Webb, Mark (Mary) Webb, Marty (Tina) Webb, Matt (Laurie) Webb, Cathy (Jim) Halbrader and Mary Ellen (Jeff) Smith.

Ozzie was on the swim team at West High school where he was also in West’s first graduating class. He attended Beloit College before joining the Navy and serviced as a corpsman from 1948-1951. After receiving his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned home where he went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Rockford College (University). Which Ozzie used in his career as a chemist and engineer at Microswitch in Freeport and National Lock in Rockford, where he was known as the “Wizard of Oz” for his ability to solve problems. Ozzie was a long-time member at St. Patrick, St. Bernadette and St. Bridget Catholic Churches in Rockford. He was also an avid golfer and bowler. Ozzie loved wood carving, creating original carvings for several family members. He loved to cook and got much joy and happiness while preparing holiday feasts for the family. Ozzie was a member of the Rockford Noon’s Lion Club and was an honorary life 3rd degree member of the Knight’s of Columbus Counsel 470. He re-established the Boy Scout program at St. Patrick Church. After retirement, Ozzie traveled the world with Mary Ann while volunteering with the International Executive Service Corp assisting the economically disadvantaged.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to caregiver, Mila. The family would also like to thank Mercy Hospice and nurses, Dana, Shelly and Amy.

Ozzie is predeceased by his parents; in-laws, Helen and Louis Heitzman; brother, Edward; son-in-law, Jeff and grandson, Jeremy Tewell. He is survived by his wife; 8 children; 31 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, December 9, 2022 in St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Avenue, Rockford. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Rockford. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Thursday, December 8, 2022 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory – Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park.
