Norma Jeanne Anderson (maiden name Roth) of Roscoe, Illinois passed away at home, accompanied by her daughter Gail, following a long battle with dementia on January 28, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Orvin “Andy” Edward Anderson of 46 years. It was love at first sight for Norma and it wasn’t long before they were married in Madison, Wisconsin on January 10th, 1954, shortly after Orvin’s return home from the Korean War.
Following a childhood growing up on a working dairy farm and attending a one room school, Norma attended high school at South Beloit Community High School. As a young woman, she loved to roller skate, so much so that her mom used to make her outfits just for skating.
After graduating with the class of 1948, Norma went to work as a secretary in the offices of Besly-Welles Corp. and later went on to become the secretary for the Beloit Planning Commissioner. She left to become a full-time homemaker when Gary was born.
Norma truly enjoyed being a homemaker and applied her decorating talents to creating a beautiful, comfortable home for her family. Her hobbies included sewing clothing for herself and her children, crocheting beautiful afghans, crewel embroidery, and silk flower arranging. Her green thumb had her filling her home with houseplants as well as enjoying outdoor landscaping projects with Andy. As an executive (Andy) for the JC Penney Company, they were transferred every few years, allowing her to recreate beautiful spaces each time. Among the places they lived were South Beloit IL, West Lafayette IN, McMurray PA Pickerington OH, Finleyville PA, Milwaukee WI, Union KY, Verona KY, Rockton IL and Roscoe IL.
She is survived by her 3 children: Gail Anderson of Roscoe, IL (formerly West Virginia); Gary Anderson (wife Darlene) of Petersburg, KY and Nancy Anderson of West Allis, WI. Her grandchildren include Chris and Blake, great grandchildren, Camron, Aiden, Braxton, Payton, Naya, Mia and Ila.
Sisters include Shirley, Karen, Donna and Laurie. She is predeceased by her parents: Lester and Marion Roth.
The memorial service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026. Visitation begins at 3:00 PM, the service starts at 4:00 PM, and food and refreshments will follow at 5:00 PM. The service will take place at the First Congregational Community Church, 10780 3rd Street, Roscoe, with Pastor Lisa Abb officiating.
Arrangements have been completed by Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, Roscoe Chapel, 11342 Main Street, Roscoe. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer’s/dementia organizations such as curealz.org or alz.org.
