Nancy Dorsey Obituary
Nancy Dorsey, 66, of Rockford, IL, beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Friend, passed away in her home with her family on October 24, 2021, of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. She is now at peace. Nancy was born December 1, 1954 in Queens, NY to the late Joseph and Irene Abinanti. She graduated from William Cullen Bryant High School in 1972. Nancy married the love of her life and best friend, John Dorsey, on May 25, 1975. Together they raised three beautiful children, the late Melissa Dorsey, Meaghan (Matthew) Rose, and Michael (Cristina) Dorsey. She was blessed with five grandchildren, Conley, Hadley and Finley Rose of Rockford, and John and Jacob Dorsey of Naperville. Nancy received her Nursing degree at St. Anthony's College of Nursing in 1995. She retired from UIC-Division of Specialized Care for Children in 2015. She enjoyed traveling adventures, Bunko night with friends, and learning to sew/crochet from online tutorials. She especially enjoyed creating keepsakes for her grandkids from her newfound hobby.
She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Irene Abinanti; and daughter, Melissa Dorsey. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph (Roma Liff) Abinanti; and numerous members of the Dorsey and Abinanti families.
Special thanks to the Oncology and Pulmonary Units at UW Health Rockford, especially Dr. Khattah and Dr. Zeater. We would also thank the staff at Northern Illinois Hospice for their compassion and care.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am on Thursday, October 28, 2021 in St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Avenue, Loves Park, IL 61111. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00pm on Wednesday, October 27, in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Rd., Loves Park, IL 61111. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Winnebago, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 55 W.
