Obituary
Michael Dennis Molander, age 73, peacefully passed away at his home on March 11, 2023, after fighting prostate cancer for 4 years. Michael was born in Chicago, IL on February 15, 1950 and adopted by Harold and Stella Molander of Rockford, IL. Michael was a lifelong resident of Rockford, IL. He graduated from Auburn High School in 1968 and built his career in manufacturing, receiving the Rockford Chamber of Commerce 2010 Manzullo Individual Business Catalyst of the Year Award. Michael was also a talented musician and singer, amateur archaeologist, rock hound, woodworker, cave explorer, gardener, history buff, and had an extraordinary gift of gab. He was also a community advocate for saving Native American Indian mounds and historic structures. He served on the board of Weed and Seed and MARV. Michael especially enjoyed being with family and friends.
Survived by his life partner of 30 years, Janell Forry Drolsum; daughters, Rachel Molander and Emily (Christian) Jennings of Wauwatosa, WI; brother, Randy Molander of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughters, Ellie Laesch (Nate Talan), Mabel and Amelia Jennings; close friends, Beth and Roger Kane, April and Allen Reed; nieces; a nephew; and other family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents; uncle, Richard Molander; and Janell's son, Dustan Drolsum.
Per Michael's wishes, a funeral service will not be held. Donations can be made to Serenity Hospice and Home, 1658 IL-2, Oregon, IL 61061 in Michael's name.
